In my last post I mentioned that marriage is a great adventure because God is its designer and sustainer. Take a look at Genesis 2:20 – 22 for a moment and consider all that God did for Adam. God realized that Adam needed a companion that would fulfill his life and bring him earthly joy. Imagine Adam’s delight and joy as God brought him the one that he would call Eve. She was perfect for him, exactly all he needed to fulfill his destiny as a man and he was exactly all she needed to fulfill her destiny as a woman. The adventure begins! When I officiate at a marriage, I encourage the couple to imagine that God is right there bringing the bride to the groom. Catch the awe, joy, excitement of that first marriage and realize that it is all God’s plan. Then reason beyond that and understand that if it is His plan then He will supply everything to sustain it through the years.

As a pastor, I have also just started pre-marital counseling with a young couple from our church, here at Bethel. Since this is a big part of my life right now and after much prayer and thinking, I have decided to share some thoughts about marriage from God’s perspective in my blog.

My first thought is that marriage is a wonderful adventure for all who enter into it. God has wonderfully designed us as male and female and He is the very author of marriage. It is His plan for most men and women. Since God is the author of marriage, it will be His Word where I will draw most of my thoughts. Since I have enjoyed 41 years of marriage with my wonderful wife Diane, please allow me to share some personal insights as well.
